PHILCAMSAT’s Karen Avelino at the IMO Meeting on HTW

PTC Executive Director Karen Avelino took part in the Third Session of the International Maritime Organization’s (IMO) Sub-Committee on Human Element, Training and Watchkeeping (HTW) last February 1 to 5 at the IMO Headquarters in Lambeth Road, London. Ms. Avelino was part of the Philippine delegation composed of representatives from the Philippine Association of Maritime Training Center, Incorporated (PAMTCI); the Maritime Industry Authority; and the Philippine Consulate in London. Ms. Avelino participated in the working group focused on the review of STCW passenger ship-specific safety training amendments to SOLAS Chapter II-1 and associated guidelines on damage control drills for passenger ships. Other items discussed during the meeting included the validation of a number of model courses; revisions to the guidelines on the Implementation of the International Safety (ISM) Code by Administrations; the implementation of the STCW convention and the initiation of the comprehensive review of the STCW-F Convention. The meeting was opened by IMO Secretary-General Kitack Lim and was chaired by Vice-Chairman Ms. Mayte Medina of the United States.
